December 2-6, Cancun

Nope, not for pleasure, but for business. Yes, Cancun for business. A real torture. A great resort, a nice villa, and meetings from early morning to after sundown. Well, at least I got to swim in the early mornings. Nightlife was ... well .... great if you're a teenager looking to get wasted. === No, non per divertimento ma per lavoro. Si, Cancun per lavoro. Una vera tortura. Un bellissimo resort, una villa tutta mia, e riunioni dalla mattina presto alla sera fino a dopo il tramonto. Almeno sono riuscito ad andare in piscina alle 6:30 del mattino. La vita notturna e' ... beh, come dire ... perfetta se sei un teenager che vuole ubriacarsi alla grande.

Catching up - November 30

Dear friends, sorry for lagging behind. I need to catch up now. We went through big changes at work. 400 people were laid off, fortunately most of my team is safe. It was hard to lose some good colleagues and friends, like Priya (the lady with the feathery mask in the Halloween pics), Elizabeth (the lady in Indian clothes in the same pics), Erin, Cathy, and many others. The atmosphere here around November 28th was very very negative. Anyway, now it's time to move on and think positively. The result is that now I report to the CTO, and my team works directly under the CTO direction. ==== Cari amici, scusate per il ritardo nel fornire informazioni. Al lavoro ci sono stati grossi cambiamenti. 400 persone sono state licenziate come risultato del consolidamento di Marvell dopo l'acquisizione del gruppo di Intel (noi) un anno fa. E' stato molto triste perdere dei buoni amici come Priya (la ragazza con la mascherina di piume nella foto di Halloween), Elizabeth (costume indiano nella stessa foto), Erin, Cathy ed altri. L'atmosfera al lavoro alla fine di Novembre era molto negativa. Comunque, e' il momento di guardare avanti e pensare in modo positivo. Il risultato e' che adesso il mio capo e' il CTO dell'azienda.

November 15, Ljubljana, Slovenia

The food here is great (notice how food is a constant topic for me ...). We really enjoyed the ham, pancetta, boar salami, and so on. Had very nice pasta with wild porcini mushrooms, and game dishes (venison, boar, etc.). If pass by here, don't forget to try the Gibanica . It's the local dessert, a layered puff pastry filled with pears (sometimes apples) marinated in grappa, poppy seed cream, eggs cream, and walnut. It's a bomb, in the sense you take 2 days to digest it, but it's sooooo yummy! ==== Ah, il cibo e' molto buono qui. notato come alla fin fine parlo sempre di cibo??? Ci siamo veramente goduto il prosciutto, la pancetta locale, il salame di cinghiale. Le tagliatelle con i porcini freschi sono ottime, e la selvaggina (cinghiale, cervo, capriolo) ancora meglio. Se passate di qua, non dimenticate di assaggiare la Gibanica, il dolce locale. E' una millefoglie con pere marinate nella grappa, crema di semi di papavero, crema all'uovo, e noci. Una bomba, nel senso che ci volgiono 2 giorni per digerirla. Ma e' veramente buona.

November 12, Ljubljana, Slovenia

After a long day of meetings and upheaval at work (my boss resigned, leaving a lot of uncertainty), we treated ourselves to a nice dinner. I had the best venison I've ever had, served with wild berries. Yummy!!!! I could not resist the dessert, and had a Gibanica. It's a warm cake with pears and cream filling. Its denser that a block of iron, it must have 17 thousand calories, but it's soooo good. I'll skip breakfast and lunch tomorrow! ===== Dopo una lunga e stressante giornata al meeting (il mio capo se n'e' andato lasciando parecchia incertezza), abbiamo deciso di concederci una buona cena. Ho mangiato il miglior cervo ch'io abbia mai assaggiato, servito con i frutti di bosco. Ottimo! Poin non ho potuto resistere alla tentazione del dolce e mi sono fatto una Gibanica. Praticamente ha il peso specifico del ferro, probabilmente 17 mila calorie, ma buona!! Vorra' dire niente colazione ne' pranzo!!!

November 10-11, Ljubljana and Italy

After a rainy, snowy, and cold week in Warsaw, I traveled to Ljubljana (Slovenia) where the weather is much nicer. Anyway, got in early and somehow I felt that it would be better to take the chance to go home. So, I rented a car and drove the 300Km home. It was nice to see the surprise on my mother's face. My father and Rosy were also very happy, but probably my aunt Laura was the happiest, she hadn't seen me since last Christmas. Had also a nice visit with my cousin Giovanna and Davis, in their new house (very nice besides the curly window treatment). All in all it was a nice weekend, it was a good idea to go home and spend a very relaxing weekend. Now back to a week of work in Ljubljana. ===== Dopo una settimana fredda e di pioggia/neve in Varsavia, me ne sono andato a Ljubljana (Slovenia) per il meeting della settimana successiva. Visto che sono arrivato presto sabato mattina, ho deciso che sarebbe stato meglio per me fare una scappata a casa (anche se solo toccata e fuga come i militari di leva una volta). Cosi' ho affittato un'auto e mi sono fatto i 300Km fino a casa. E' stato bello vedere la faccia sorpresa di mia madre. Ovviamente anche mio padre e Rosy erano contenti, ma probabilmente la piu' contenta era mia zia Laura che non mi vedeva dallo scorso Natale. E' stato bello visitare mia cugina Giovanna e Davis, nella loro nuova casetta (molto bella a parte le tende arricciate). E' stato un bel weekend, un'ottima idea andare a casa e passare due giornate rilassanti. Adesso di nuovo al lavoro con il mio meeting a Ljubljana.

November 5-9 - Nice, Fr. and Warsaw (Pl)

Trip to my 3GPP standards meeting, with an EU tour. I got to Nice on Sunday evening, had a nice car accident on Tuesday, then flew to Warsaw to find a gloomy and snowy weather. Spent the week in boring and tiring meetings. Will be leaving for Ljubljana (Slovenia) on Saturday morning. Wait, did I say I had a car accident?? Yes, I did, but I did not get hurt, fortunately. Here's a posting of how it happened. It was a miracle I did not kill the jerk.
Viaggio ad uno dei miei tipici meeting, incluso un tour dell'Europa (x lavoro). Sono arrivato a Nizza domenica sera, ho avuto un bell'incidente d'auto martedi', poi martedi' stesso sono volato a Varsavia per trovare un tempo griogio, triste e nevoso. Me ne vado a Ljubljana (Slovenia) sabato mattina. Aspetta un attimo: ho detto che ho avuto un incidente d'auto? Purtroppo si, ma per fortuna non mi sono fatto male. Vi allego delle immagini su come e' accaduto. Per miracolo non ho ucciso lo str.... che l'ha causato.
